Iloilo City Public Library sets monthly storytelling for kids

In a move to highlight the importance of reading among children, the Iloilo City Public Library (ICPL) will be conducting storytelling sessions every month starting March 8, and Read Aloud Day in line with the celebration of Public Library Day on March 9.

The monthly storytelling will kick off with children aged 4 to 10 years old.

City Librarian Marion Aguirre said this is the first time that ICPL will be conducting the monthly storytelling at second floor of City Hall.

Pupils in Iloilo City Children’s Learning Center (ICGCLC) and their parents will participate in the Public Library Day which ICPL will celebrate on March 11.

“We want our parents and children to develop their bond through reading, and at the same time, we have noticed that bed time stories are not being practiced among kids, that is why parents will be the ones to read the stories to them,” Aguirre said.

“We have also noticed that after school, children are using cellphone. Not that we are against technology, but we should still instill to our children that through reading, it will develop their skills in reading, speaking, and will improve their communication not only towards their parents, but to people around them,” Aguirre added.
