Treñas: Initial testing at WVMC yields positive results for COVID-19

Mayor Jerry Treñas on COVID-19 updates

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas announced Friday that Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) has done initial testing on specimens of persons under investigation (PUIs) in Iloilo, and it yielded some positive results for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

But Treñas was quick to say that these results are still unofficial and will still be sent to Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) for further validation.

“Our laboratory here has results of initial testing. They won’t reveal it yet, but we have patients positive with COVID-19. They won’t announce it yet because it will still be cleared with RITM,” said Treñas.

“The more tests that we have, the more positive cases that we will have.”

The city mayor also divulged that one of the PUIs died last night and will be cremated.

“While we are waiting for the official statement of DOH, we know that there is a PUI who passed away and we will have it cremated immediately,” Treñas added.

With this development, Treñas reiterated his call for Ilonggos in the city who don’t have important things to do outside to just stay home.

“Stay home so that this quarantine period will not last any longer,” he said.
