Globe’s cleanup efforts earn praise in Iloilo City

Globe cleanup efforts in Iloilo City

Mayor Jerry Treñas lauded Globe’s cleanup efforts to make the city’s environment clean and safe. The citation was in reference to the recent cable clearing operation done by the telco.

In his social media post, Mayor Treñas said, “We are very grateful to our private sector in partnering with the city in beautifying our streets, and securing the safety of our streets.”

“Globe (team) has fixed its facilities underneath the skywalk, and more line teams have helped us in clearing tree branches that impede the bundling of wires and cables,” he added.

With the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic to the country, Globe has been working closely with Iloilo City to bring about better connectivity, enabling faster delivery of services to the city by the LGU. The improved connectivity is benefitting the city’s public school students and residents in general.

Aside from Globe’s cleanup efforts, more cell towers have been installed in the city as Iloilo pivoted and fully-embraced the use of the internet to communicate to its constituencies and make public services more accessible. Its partnership with Globe has also helped public school students to cope with the demands of distance learning or online classes as schools remained closed for face-to-face classes due to health protocols.

Globe has installed one new cell site in Barangay Calahunan and made more than 150 site upgrades in the city. These network improvements have allowed Iloilo residents to make the most of their mobile experience including cashless transactions using GCash, leading to unprecedented growth in GCash users in the Visayas to almost five times from December 2019 to December 2020, with a significant number of these coming from Iloilo.

Globe supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically UNSDG No. 9 which emphasizes the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development. Globe is committed to upholding the 10 United Nations Global Compact principles and 10 UN SDGs.
