Iloilo City launches online learning materials on disasters

Iloilo City online learning on disaster preparedness.

The Iloilo City Government through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) launched July 1 its online information, education and communication materials on disaster risk reduction (DRR) in time for the observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM).

“Challenging times like what we experience at present, give us the opportunity to express our prevailing virtue of resilience, and to make this test an inspiration to even fire up our passion to do more for our beloved city. The Iloilo City Government’s initiatives in fighting against COVID-19 speak volumes about how Ilonggos are resilient, and I am proud of how we have come a long way,” Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said in his message via Zoom.

“Different types of disasters may affect communities in multiple ways, but the Iloilo City Government is at the forefront in ensuring that the risks brought about by these disasters will have lesser impacts to the people and the community. We look forward to a more resilient Iloilo City to respond to various complex disaster risks, and this can only be achieved if we all work together,” he added.

More than a hundred stakeholders from the barangays, schools, from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, and from the children sector participated in the online event.

This year’s NDRM theme is: “Husto nga Pagdumala kag Pagpangaman, Ihibalo kag Pagbuligay sa tion sang Kalalat-an kag Pandemya, ang Taming sang Banwa” (Tamang Pamamahala’t Kahandaan, Kaalaman at Pagtutulungan sa Sakuna at Pandemyaý Kalasag ng Bayan).

“This reminds us that good governance and prevention of disasters always come together to get maximum positive results,” CDRRMO officer-in-charge Donna Magno said.

CDRRMO’s Christian Louie Casiano worked on the video production. He was assisted by his colleague, Kate Naelga, in conceptualizing the online game.

The interactive online learning materials that aim to attract attention, participation, and application of knowledge during actual situations, consist of games like Spot the Object and Maze Game, preparedness tips on various hazards faced by Iloilo City, trivia questions, and quizzes.
